A traditional and well lived in two room Greene King pub, It's certainly one of the better Greene King pubs I've been in and not a typical example of the genera. It was obviously a locals favourite and had the feel of a local and definetaly one of th... [more>]

Visited by chance in passing when we were looking for a quick bite to eat in the neighbourhood. Definitely a slice of luck and more than a slice of pizza! I believe this used to be a craft beer bar with the pizza business out the back but seems like ... [more>]

A decent backstreet pub with a fine offering of cask beer from the eight handpulls on the bar, Mighty Oak The Old Man And The Sea was my choice and it was mighty fine. A good pub but just falling short of an elite pub for me.

Another good Greene King pub aided with the ability to offer a range of guest ales, the beers of the day were detailed below by Steve C and my Leeds Pale was fine. Well worth the visit.

A reasonable backstreet pub albeit somewhat modernised inside, my three Blind Mice Porterhouse Blues was a good drop. I didn't really warm to the interior despite some decent ale, worth the visit though.

Ticked off this German theme bar on the row of bars and eateries that is Mill Lane near the St David’s Centre. Was doing a roaring trade on my brief visit around 4pm with the entrance to the front outside seating area already manned by security staff... [more>]

Visited on 04/05/24 First visit to this lovely village pub for probably the first time in 25 years! Aberthin is a small village about a 5 minute drive from the centre of Cowbridge. There are a couple of benches out the front to catch the early eveni... [more>]

Fortunately, compared to Moby, it’s not a mission to get here when you live in N21. Just announced that it has been awarded the Enfield and Barnet CAMRA branch POTY again. Four ales from cask and then up to four from keykeg and keg. The pull through... [more>]

Sadly the long term Irish Guvnor passed away in late 2022 and the pub hasn’t been the same since. The managers brought in since then have had no interest in real ale or maintaining the community feel the Dog and Duck was famous for. The four hand pum... [more>]

Glad to say this one just about survived the pandemic and John, the Irish Guvnor of some 27 years and counting is still at the helm. Unfortunately it’s unbroken 28 year run in the Good Beer Guide came to an end when the local CAMRA branch didn’t incl... [more>]

Directly opposite the more substantial and classy Hare & Hounds opposite. Popped in here for a quick jog down memory lane following dinner opposite. Much quieter by comparison and a more rustic and typical pub food offering. Feels like a long barn wi... [more>]

Multi-roomed gastropub owned by the same pubco as runs The James Figg further up the High Street, this hostelry being beyond the fair reaches of main drag. There's a nice 'snug' drinking area on entry dominated by a huge fireplace, but all other room... [more>]

A recent revisit found an excellent Bass (NBSS 4) and a pleasant sunshine-filled view across the water. Vic’s now been 50 years at the helm and to celebrate there’s ceremonial arch appeared the entrance. It’s a brilliant place and I urge you all to s... [more>]

Trundles along in its own quirky way. Luke the landlord, the roaming cats (plus their whiff) and the vinyl turntable remain in situ. My Moor Buckwheat Mild was par - NBSS 3. Apparently no draught lager is sold, which will please the old guard. GBG li... [more>]

Smelly old place with an unsatisfying mish-mash of an interior and furniture. The new ‘whole wall’ mural looks like something out a children’s book. Been in and out of the GBG over the years - currently, it’s listed. Five cask on the go, my Small Wor... [more>] |
